Could your re-occuring headache be a component of ADHD? If you have been to a doctor to get to the bottom of your migraines, and there is no resolution, consider that ADHD may be the culprit.
In this presentation Dr. Sarah Cheyette will explain how and why ADHD can lead to migraines. Why haven’t you heard this before? Part of the reason is that doctors who specialize in headache management are usually not the same doctors who specialize in ADHD. Inattentive women with ADHD, working from or at home during the pandemic, may be surprised by unexpected feelings of anxiety or fears at the thought of transitioning back to a post pandemic life, unrelated to the fear of the disease itself! This may create feelings of guilt or confusion for these women who have experienced relief from the pressures of “normal” life with its constant executive function demands for coordination, logistics, social pressures, and expectations that have been dramatically reduced during this time.
I will normalize these reactions, explore what this transition might bring from the perspective of women with ADHD, and suggest mindsets that might help ease the road ahead.

Dating in today’s digital age is challenging for many people, especially women with ADHD. Cannabis is one of the most widely used and abused substances among people with ADHD. Many assume that cannabis is safe — even medicinal — for ADHD. These assumptions have been bolstered by the legalization of cannabis in more and more states. However, this is far from the truth, especially in young people. Cannabis carries many consequences to the developing brain and body, and people with ADHD are especially vulnerable to its effects. Though marijuana use is a hotly debated topic, this webinar focuses on concrete scientific and clinical data.

Two of the most frequent things women with ADHD ask me are: (1) How can I become more organized and, (2) What is the best planner to use to stay organized?
I have startling news to share with you: there is no perfect answer to these questions. As most of you know, we women with ADHD can get so stuck at the starting line, that we never see the clean laundry end up in closets (hung, not thrown) or papers filed neatly, color-coded in a logical sense. We simply have a jump-start brain that chooses not to fire up when we need it to. And when it does, it generally races in a completely different direction. Then we slam ourselves emotionally, doubled over in shame, self-doubt, and poor self-esteem. Push repeat. Every day.
I will talk about a strategy for getting yourself organized that is so simple, you’ll shower me with pennies (though I prefer chocolate). As for a planner, we’ll talk about that, too!

Rejection Sensitive Dysphoria (RSD) is an unofficial term that describes one of the more disruptive and painful experiences of ADHD. RSD is a very specific vulnerability in which people with ADHD are much more sensitive to the perception that others may have withdrawn their love, approval, or respect or that the person has done it to themselves because they think that they have failed or fallen short. People try to avoid these painful, unbearable episodes in many ways such as perfectionism, people pleasing, or never taking chances with other people. It is one of the most impairing features of ADHD, only recently identified and treated. This presentation will discuss the origins of RSD, how it disrupts many aspects of adult functioning and relationships, and how it can be managed.
Since his retirement from active patient care Dr. Bill Dodson has been a speaker, consultant, and writer on adult ADHD medicine. He has written more than 100 articles and 12 webinars for ADDitude and ADDA and is on ADDitude’s Board of Scientific Advisers. Dr. Dodson is a Board-Certified adult Psychiatrist who was one of the first practitioners to specialize in adults with ADHD 25 years ago. He was the recipient of the national Maxwell J. Schleifer Award for Distinguished Service to Persons with Disabilities in 2006.
