In the United Kingdom, schools start discussing career options in elementary school. Is this too young for children to start thinking of a career path? Actually, elementary school and high school may be the perfect time for the ADHD brain that is always asking “Why?” A better understanding of how school relates to career can help academic performance. Changing the “end goal” from college to career also opens up many potential paths for the ADHD child. This mindset can take some of the pressure off excelling in every class and allow the child to focus on their strengths.

About Tom Bergeron

Tom Bergeron is co-founder of Inventive Labs, a career and business incubator focused on adults with ADHD, dyslexia, and ASD. The Lab runs a hands-on program helping individuals find their path forward by exploring career, school and entrepreneurship options. Tom has worked at various start-up companies helping identify how new products fit into their market. He now uses the same concepts he learnt in business to help individuals find their “market fit”. Tom experienced many challenges in school, but by charting his own path he found success in business. He noticed the traits that hold some individuals back in school can actually be their advantage in the workplace. It is his belief that individuals with ADHD tend to be the best and brightest entrepreneurs, artists, designers, inventors, and scientists. He is now committed to helping the next generation find their path forward and launch their careers. He believes it isn’t a race to the finish line, but a journey of learning and exploration to find a livelihood that offers fulfillment and success. Prior to Inventive Labs, Tom worked for a number of startup companies, heading up sales, marketing, and product development teams. More information is available online at www.inventivelabs.org.
