Women have been understudied in virtual every aspect of healthcare with the notable exception of breast cancer research. I guess men just like studying breasts! 🙂 There is a huge gap in the literature about women and ADHD generally–from onset and assessment in girls to later life treatments and finally to how changes in hormones through the menopause continuum affects symptoms and treatment.
In this presentation we are going to talk about what research has shown is THE gold standard of ADHD assessment and care for girls and women through the lifespan. Participants will learn about how ADHD shows up differently for women and how aging affects the experience of ADHD and our need for continued assessment that guides individualized treatment through the lifespan. We’ll talk about the need for objective measures that are sensitive to changes in treatments, environmental factors, and biological factors. It’s time we give as much attention to women’s brains and bodies as we do their breasts!
