Minority Report: Women of Color and ADHD – 2017

People of color have special challenges when ADHD is part of the picture. Evelyn Green talks about how society’s stigma against minority groups creates extra barriers and extra stress, and why women have to work “twice as hard.” Minorities face specific difficulties in seeking out an ADHD diagnosis and treatment due to cultural differences and this session explores how the diagnosis impacts acceptance, both internally and externally. Green shares some personal stories to help explain the real challenges minorities face when searching for help for their ADHD. She also offers suggestions on what people of color can do to support and educate others so that there is less of a stigma in asking for and receiving mental health support and services in general.
